Meet Quinn Hobbs: June Grapes, a June Collaboration with Hollow Wines
To celebrate the launch of June Grapes — an exclusive Hotel June wine collaboration with sustainably-produced, family-run Hollow Grapes wine — we met up for a conversation on all things wine with owner and winemaker Quinn Hobbs. Read on for more on Quinn’s background and to learn about the two natural, organic wines he created just for June.
Quinn is an LA native and Playa Del Rey neighborhood local, operating Hollow Grapes alongside his wife Alison and daughter Mina. His journey to wine started unexpectedly, sparked by volunteering with local wineries while in recovery after his formerly high-stress, entrepreneurial career landed him in the emergency room. The volunteering unfolded into a complete career pivot, with Quinn traveling to Western Australia to learn natural winemaking from Side Project Wines. Through this experience, he bridged his commitment to bettering the planet through his new love for wine making. By making wine naturally versus conventionally, unnecessary pesticides and additives are omitted, and minimal-to-no sulfites are added…all while reducing water usage through an organic process.
Today, Hollow Grapes is a one-man wine-making operation, which begins with grapes sourced from organic and dry-farmed vineyards; hand harvesting the grapes; and pressing with minimal intervention and wild fermentation. For our exclusive June Grapes collaboration, Quinn sourced grapes from a favorite vineyard, the Siletto Family Vineyards in San Benito County, CA. Grapes also came from DeRose winery in Hollister, CA, a vineyard that is exclusively dry farmed and entirely solar-powered. As a result, our wines are processed using the industry’s pureset process, meaning no chemicals or sulfates are added at any point.
We can’t wait for you to experience both wines that Quinn created just for Hotel June — a German and French white wine (Riesling (65%) and Chenin Blanc (35%)); and a Malbec inspired by his family’s history fleeing Georgia and Southern Russia to Argentina. (As an homage to his mother, Quinn created this special Malbec in a traditional clay Amphora.)
Quinn’s philosophy at Hollow Wines is an example of why the best things take time. Hand picking each grape, following a process that decreases their carbon footprint, and pouring in lots of love and care. You can truly taste the passion of this small but impactful operation in every glass.
Both wines are now available during dinner service at Caravan Swim Club!
