Tell us about yourself and how you came to be an artist
I started drawing and doing art at a very young age. My dad is an artist and architect and also designed lighting for a while. And my mom was a clothing designer for 20 years as well. They influenced me to be as creative as possible. I got interested in shooting photos when I was in high school and haven’t looked back since.
What is your creative process?
I love shooting photos of subjects that interest me: waves, people, unique landscapes. The ocean is a large source of inspiration as well as traveling to new places. Photographing different cultures also captivates me. I like to experience a place and try to compose photos to create a feeling or tell a story.
What draws you to photography?
I like that with photography you can capture a memory with just a click of a button. Collecting images almost feels like second nature to me now as a way to keep a sort of diary of my life.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I am inspired by my friends who lad creative lives, good music and beautiful places.
When do you make your best work?
I would say I do my best work when I’m traveling or stress free away from any restrictions or responsibilities. Shooting photos for myself always feels more natural and in that case more enjoyable.
What influence does your environment (Hotel June for instance) have on your work?
I was intrigued by the variety in decor at the hotel. The surrounding areas influenced me to shoot what I enjoy photographing.
What messages or emotions do you hope to convey through your art?
I hope to convey a feeling of nostalgia or joy through my images. I think most people can relate to the beauty of the ocean and the California landscapes I prefer to photograph.
Who are some creative people who have influenced you?
I am greatly influenced by fellow photographers and artists that follow their heart and are making a living doing what they love.
What makes you excited about the future?
I am excited to travel again and to keep shooting what I love. Hopefully people can be inspired from what I create and can take that with them to use within their own art.
